FIREHEAD STUDIO

the “fuck around, find out” era: 2020-2024

COVID shut down all my violin and DJ performances from early 2019-2021; I needed to monetize a new skill, and quickly. I experimented with commerce, making creative reversible masks on a sewing machine; I ended up making sweaters with my original artworks on them, and taking custom orders to create pop culture items for my friends. I also made clothes during my time in LA while I was slowly realizing I needed a long break from music, and although I had fun selling these clothes I hated the process of making them. It wasnt until bringing my new in textiles and beads back to canvas art that I felt complete again. These little pieces required more patience than I’d previously had for making large paintings, and the meditative nature of cutting and sewing slowed my pace down tenfold. I consider this my Mr. Miyagi period, because even though I loathed sewing, I learned how to submit to the art that wants to come through me. This energy is finally present in my newer acrylic works.
